Michael Hickey works in Verizon’s national office located in Washington, DC. Previously, Michael was State President of Verizon for New Hampshire where he was responsible for all of the company's operations in the state.
Before Verizon, Michael was president and chief executive officer of Bell Atlantic-New Hampshire, with oversight of the company's operations, external affairs, regulatory and financial matters, a position he held since 1997. In 1986 Michael joined New England Telephone as director, government affairs, in Concord, New Hampshire. In 1989, Michael served as director, government affairs for NYNEX in Washington, D.C., and in 1991, became the director of external affairs and corporate communications. In 1995, Michael was named executive director of strategic alliances for NYNEX based in both White Plains, N.Y. and Washington D.C.
Michael began his career in 1973 as a land use planner for the Strafford Regional Planning Commission in Dover. In 1977, Michael served as executive director for the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce. From 1984 to 1986, Michael served as director, State of New Hampshire Office of Economic Development.
Michael serves on many community boards. Currently, he serves as chair of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and serves on the boards of the Citizens Bank-New Hampshire, the New Hampshire Business and Industry Association, and the New Hampshire High Technology Council, to name a few.
Michael's recent awards include the 2000 Public Relations Society of America, Yankee Chapter Leadership Award and the 2000 Pastoral Counseling Service Good Samaritan Award for business. He was named the 2001 NH business leader of the year by Business New Hampshire Magazine.
Michael received his B.A. in sociology from the University of New Hampshire. His education also includes the urban studies program at St. Anselm College, the Brookings Congressional Fellowship Program, the U.S. House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Staff, and the Gallup Leadership Institute.
