Capitol Hill Day 2009
The Association of Public Television Stations invites you to join us at a transitional moment for our industry, and our country as a whole. Capitol Hill Day will be held as local stations prepare for the February 17 digital switchover, and through your active involvement, we will have the opportunity to redefine ourselves as Public Service Media to the new political leadership in Washington, DC.
As an industry, we know that there are a lot of reasons to be hopeful about the transformation of analog public television into digital public service media. Working with local stations, APTS has been very effective in securing often elusive financial investments, in highlighting new digital programming and services, and in thinking about new ways to convey to policymakers the potential of public service media. Like you, we see the tremendous opportunities in digital, and we also see the daunting challenges that we must overcome to realize that potential.
Capitol Hill Day is our first, best opportunity begin to ThinkBig—to use the fantastic energy and enthusiasm we have for public service media in the digital age to cultivate new champions on the Hill. Through ThinkBig, we are developing a case statement that will generate excitement for the essential role public service media will play in this century. At Capitol Hill Day we will lay out the challenges we face to policymakers, but we will also use the ThinkBig case statement to put forward a positive vision of the tremendous impact our stations can have by partnering with the community and leveraging your digital assets.
We are so committed to having a strong station and lay turnout that we’ve reduced the registration rates. So, the registration rate for a lay attendee—regardless of the station’s membership status in APTS—is only $285! We need every station to work with us to energize our elected officials and help them to see the promise that public service media hold for the communities we all serve. We’ve proven we can do this, and Capitol Hill Day 2009 is the time to work together to achieve it.
